Scenario 5

A minister has recently been appointed to a new church. The first few months were great and she was very popular among the congregation. Recently an article she wrote many years ago has been circulating among members of the congregation by someone who found it on the internet. Many in the church found that the article did not reflect core aspects of their theology. Even though she never brought up the issue in question, many felt they could no longer trust her. Instead of talking with her and asking for an explanation of her position, they began circulating a petition for her removal. The church became divided between those who were for her staying and those who wanted to see her go.

Questions: How should the minister respond? Outline what you would do in this situation?
